Sustainable agriculture needs you!
SeedFeedFood.eu launches on World Water Day 2011

Sustainable agriculture is more important than ever before.  On World Water Day 2011, the new blog SeedFeedFood.eu is being launched by EuropaBio to bring attention to the role agriculture can play in conserving our natural resources.

We make the link between the headlines–-agriculture, food security, climate change, development–and real life, like the farmers, scientists and other people who are making a difference to how we meet these challenges.

Our latest post focuses on the tension between cities and agriculture for water.  Whether on the blog or via Twitter, @SeedFeedFoodcome join the conversation and add your perspective!,

Facts about water & agriculture:

·         Agriculture currently requires 71% of water worldwide.
·         Farmers globally will need 45% more water by 2030.
·         Within a generation, water demand in many countries is forecast to exceed supply by an estimated 40 percent.
·         A 1% increase in water productivity in food production can potentially make available an extra 24 litres of water per day per person.
·         On average, it takes about 3,000 litres of water per person to produce our daily intake of food. (UN World Water Report)
